Nancy Armistead

Executive Director

Nancy C. Armistead has served as the Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition since 1988, when the the End Stage Renal Disease Network for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia was established.

Ms. Armistead has extensive knowledge of the federal ESRD program and the dialysis and transplantation health care delivery systems, as well as expertise in continuous quality improvement, data collection and analysis, and management of computerized data systems. In addition to the CMS contract, Ms. Armistead has directed contract work with the Harvard School of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has partnered with the Academy for Educational Development to develop online educational modules for dialysis unit staff.

In 2009, her company was awarded the contract to lead the Fistula First Breakthrough Initiative. She helped establish the Kidney End of Life Coalition, which developed a pain management algorithm to treat patients with kidney failure. Her work in patient safety resulted in the development of the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program, endorsed by both the Renal Physician Association and the American Nephrology Nurses Association.

She has published articles in The New England Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and Kidney International. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Renal Administrator Association, the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Association Executives.

Ms. Armistead has a Master of Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
