Faisal Khan, MBBS, MPH, Director of Health Services ResearchAs Director of Health Services Research, Dr. Faisal Khan is responsible for quality control oversight and scientific support for the Veterans Health Administration – External Peer Review Program. Dr. Khan is a medical epidemiologist with a clinical background. He has ten years of experience in public health, field epidemiology, communicable disease control, public health program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Dr. Khan completed his medical training at the Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and earned a Masters in Public Health from Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia.

Before joining WVMI, Dr. Khan was Director of Program Development, Policy and Planning for the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Boston, MA. In that position he oversaw key projects, including the introduction of rapid HIV testing statewide and the development of the state’s partner counseling and referral system.

Dr. Khan also served as Director of the HIV/AIDS/STD Program and Needlestick Injury for the Division of Surveillance and Disease Control of the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, Charleston, WV.
 
Activities and Accomplishments 

Provided technical assistance to Republic of Botswana HIV/AIDS program, August 2005 to June 2006.

Helped design on-site technical assistance for Republic of Zimbabwe HIV/AIDS program, March 2003-June 2004.

Provided on-site technical assistance to the Republic of South Africa HIV/AIDS program, June 2002

Provided technical assistance in Washington, D.C., and West Virginia to People’s Republic of China HIV/AIDS program, February 2002 and May 2003.

Member of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, Paris, France

Member of the Steering Committee - NASTAD Global AIDS Program.

Member of the HIV/AIDS section at the American Public Health Association

Member of the American Public Health Association (HIV/AIDS, International Health).

Former Vice Chair - National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD)
