WVMI has served as the prime contractor for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) External Peer Review Program (EPRP) since the program's inception in 1991. Under our current contract, our trained, nationwide network of medical record abstractors visit every DVA medical facility in United States to electronically collect information about the quality of medical care being provided. They then use WVMI's electronic network to upload records to our corporate headquarters where our staff apply sophisticated analytic techniques to turn data into useful quality improvement information.
The size and scope of the EPRP demonstrates WVMI's ability to handle a large volume of data in a short period of time. During a recent year, WVMI collected and analyzed nearly 250,000 DVA medical records.
In addition to peer review and audit activities, WVMI has provided a full range of supportive work to the VHA's quality improvement efforts. For example, we have assisted the VHA in developing treatment guidelines for common conditions in its beneficiary population.
