Epidemiologist weighs in on EHRs for Discovery Web site
Charleston, WV - The Discovery Channel Web site in September featured an editorial by WVMI Director of Scientific Support Dr. Charles P. Schade.
Schade’s article, “Seven Lessons from the UK,” appears as part of the Wide Angles series on technology. The series includes articles, podcasts, videos, interviews and slide shows that let readers explore the latest technology issues from every angle.
In the commentary, the medical epidemiologist explains what the United States can learn from the United Kingdom's switch to electronic health records. The article is based on research Schade conducted in 2005, when he visited England and Scotland to interview more than a dozen physicians who had adopted electronic health records.
Discovery Health approached Schade several weeks ago about writing an opinion piece. Discovery.com is a leading television Web site with portals to the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, the Travel Channel and the Discovery Health Channel, among others.
Schade has published numerous articles. His work has appeared in the American Journal of Public Health and the American Journal of Medical Quality, among others. He earned a medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine and a master’s in public health from the University of Texas.
