WVMI awarded cardiology registry contract
Charleston, WV - The American College of Cardiology Foundation in January awarded a three-year contract to the West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) to provide abstraction services for its National Cardiovascular Data Registry (ACC-NCDR).
The registry allows heart care facilities to voluntarily and confidentially submit data that can be used to improve patient care. Participating facilities, for example, can compare their performance to national data. Third parties such as the Leapfrog Group and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations are also increasingly using the database for quality improvement efforts.
To ensure the accuracy of the database, the ACC has contracted with WVMI to provide on-site medical abstraction. WVMI will compare the data in the registry with that in the cardiac facilities’ medical records.
“We are excited about participating on a national scale to advance the care of patients with cardiac disease,” said John Wiesendanger, CEO of WVMI. “This is a natural extension of the data collection services we’ve offered nationally for more than 10 years.”
In the first year, WVMI will abstract about 2,300 medical records from 35 facilities in 23 states. Abstractors will visit about 15 additional sites each year with the number of medical records increasing annually.
