CEO Receives Distinguished Service Award
Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) Chief Executive Officer John Wiesendanger received the Distinguished Service Award from the West Virginia Hospital Association during its Sept. 29 annual meeting in Charleston.
The award recognizes individuals who show exceptional leadership in addressing West Virginia’s health care issues. Committee chairman Al Lawson, who presented the award, praised Wiesendanger for his significant contributions to hospital administration.
“Those of us in the hospital and health care community are fortunate to be the beneficiaries of his expertise and contributions to the advancement of care,” said Lawson.
Under Wiesendanger’s leadership, WVMI collaborated with the West Virginia Hospital Association and hospitals throughout the state to further quality initiatives and to increase patient safety awareness. Most recently, he has been actively involved in establishing the West Virginia eHealth Initiative, a project to electronically connect health care providers to improve health care delivery and lower costs.
As the head of the WVMI and two subsidiaries, Wiesendanger is charged with improving care for Medicare consumers in three states, as well as U.S. military veterans, active duty military personnel and Medicaid recipients. In addition, he is active in the Charleston Rotary Club. Under his direction, WVMI recently became a member of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
