The Right Care for Every Patien Every Time
One of the largest and most successful Quality Improvement Organizations (QIO) in the nation, WVMI & Quality Insights is the federally designated Medicare QIO contractor for West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware. In each of the states we serve, we helps health care providers work toward the goal of the right care for every patient every time. During our current contract (known as the 9th Scope of Work), we are improving patient safety in hospitals and nursing homes and helping physicians who have adopted electronic health records to use them to improve use of preventive services.
In its last contract, we assisted hundreds of nursing homes, home health agencies, physician offices and hospitals with:
- Creating a culture that consistently improves the quality of care
- Using proven tools and processes to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of how care is delivered
- Measuring and reporting performance
- Using information technology more effectively
Special Projects
As part of its work on behalf of Medicare, WVMI received a special project to implement a national home health campaign. In concert with CMS, a host of national partners, and approximately 5,000 home health agencies throughout the country, we are coordinating a two-year effort focused on reducing avoidable hospitalizations in the acute care setting. The current campaign builds on WVMI & Quality Insights’ previous home health work. During our previous QIO contract, we served as the program’s national Support Contractor (known as a QIOSC). We provided guidance, tools and resources to every QIO in the country. In a satisfaction survey of QIOs commissioned by CMS in 2006, the Home Health QIOSC ranked at or near the top in all measures. We also implemented the first Home Health National Campaign in 2007.
In addition to Home Health Support, Quality Insights of Pennsylvania developed national physician office quality measures for specialties without measures. Nine of our measures were review by AQA and included in CMS’ Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) measure set.
